About NHA

The mission statement of New Horizon Academy (NHA) is to provide a quality education in a structured environment. NHA is an alternative middle/high school whose goal is to afford students the opportunity to complete high school. NHA believes that a place should be provided for students who do not readily fit into a school or classroom of the norm. NHA strongly supports the concept that a positive self image is the key to success.  NHA also recognizes that not all students have the ability or the desire to continue their education after high school. NHA believes that students should be motivated to complete high school in order to successfully pursue other avenues.
NHA operates very much the same as in any traditional setting.  There are seven periods in the day, and the students change classes every 50 minutes.  Class size is limited to nine.  Students usually take four required classes and two electives. The seventh period accommodates tutoring and and allows the opportunity for homework assistance.

NHA promotes a family atmosphere. The school celebrates each student’s birthday and celebrates a number of holidays with special events.  Although small, NHA has a yearbook and student council where the students provide input for various activities.  Some of the activities include Thanksgiving at Lake Wyman Park, a special cook out at Quiet Waters Park, and an end -of -the-year awards dinner at Lighthouse Point Yacht Club.
